Thursday Preconferences - 7:30am - 5:00pm
HPNA Leadership Conference (full day) - This is a leadership preconference open by invitation created specifically for HPNA chapters, provisional groups, and district leaders.
ACHPN Certification Review Course (full day) - This one-day provider-directed, provider-paced live intensive course is designed to assist with preparation for the ACHPN exam through didactic course presentation with active learner engagement, case study examinations, practice exam questions, and self-check/reflection to highlight self-identifying topics that require further preparation and study. This course provides a review of the content areas based on the HPCC detailed test content outline. The educational content may also be used to increase the hospice and palliative advanced registered nurse's knowledge of palliative nursing. A Case-Based Approach to Care Transitions Across Settings (am) - Saddle up and enjoy the ride! This fast-paced preconference is designed to to take learners through a case-based approach of patients transitioning across settings of care. Moving Palliative Care Upstream to the Primary Care Arena (concurrent) - Advances in technology and healthcare have created longer life expectancies and changed many illnesses from terminal prognoses to chronic illnesses, resulting in a need for early palliative care across the lifespan, from neonates to the frail elderly. As palliative care moves more upstream, it is essential that hospice and palliative nurses have the information to ensure quality palliative care delivery in all settings and levels of practice, in particular the community. Hospice Essentials for the Palliative Nurse (concurrent) - Per the National Consensus Project Clinical Practice Guidelines for Quality Palliative Care, palliative care begins at diagnosis of a serious illness, continues through disease progression and end of life, and concludes at the end of a yearlong period of bereavement. This session is designed for palliative clinicians looking to gain increased knowledge of the hospice benefit to better support transition to hospice for patient’s nearing end of life. Elder Mistreatment: Hiding in Plain Sight - Recent studies have demonstrated that nearly one in six adults over 60 years of age have been victims of mistreatment. For cognitively impaired older adults, the prevalence of mistreatment rises to approximately 50%. Though most abuse is identified in all healthcare settings, research shows that identification by healthcare professionals remains low. This session is designed to increased practitioner knowledge of detection and reporting of suspected elder mistreatment hiding in plain sight, and, ultimately, improve patient safety.

The Interdisciplinary Team: Best Practices Expert Panel (expert panel) - “Train in teams those who work in teams” (IOM 1999). Join our IDT experts for this plenary panel discussion of best practices for working within an IDT. This session is designed for open forum engagement between participants and panel members to discuss strategies to enhance our team contributions in caring for patients and families with serious illnesses.
